At least 51 people have died in flash floods that have inundated the eastern Spanish region of Valencia following heavy rains on Tuesday, which submerged roads and towns, local authorities reported on Wednesday.

Axar.az reports that , citing Reuters, numerous videos circulating on social media overnight showed individuals trapped by the rising waters, with some climbing into trees to escape being swept away.

Carlos Mazon, the regional president of Valencia, stated at a press conference that some individuals are still stranded in hard-to-reach areas.

Emergency services advised citizens to avoid all road travel and stay updated through official channels.

Spain's state meteorological agency AEMET issued a red alert for Valencia, with certain areas, including Turis and Utiel, reporting 200 mm of rainfall.
