Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may run for the post of head of state for the third time if the parliament decides to hold early elections in the second half of 2027.

Axar.az reports that Mehmet Uchum, chief adviser to the Turkish leader, expressed these views.

"According to the constitution, if the parliament decides to hold early elections during the second term of the current president, then the president can be a candidate again according to article 116/3 of the constitution," Uchum said.

Erdogan's second term as president ends in 2028 and, according to the constitution, he cannot run for a third term, having been elected to the post twice in a row.
