Orthodox christians celebrate Christmas today

Today, Orthodox Christians around the world are celebrating Christmas.

Axar.az reports that Christmas, considered one of the most significant and solemn ceremonies in the Christian world, is traditionally celebrated in honor of the birth of Jesus Christ in the town of Bethlehem.

Christians worldwide celebrate this holiday on different dates based on their denominations (December 25 for Catholics and January 6-7 for Orthodox Christians). It is officially recognized as a public holiday in over 100 countries.

In foreign countries, preparations for the holiday begin months in advance and are carried out with great enthusiasm and splendor. During this period, Christmas trees are decorated in homes and public spaces, and streets are illuminated.

It should be noted that in Azerbaijan, prayers are held in Orthodox churches every year on Christmas.

President Ilham Aliyev congratulates Orthodox Christians on Christmas every year.
