A 63-year-old man has died after crashing a light plane in northern Australia on Sunday.

Axar.az reports that citing Sky news, Northern Territory Police responded to reports of a crash in the Fogg Dam, which involved two occupants.

The 63-year-old pilot of the aircraft was "located deceased" inside the aircraft, while an uninjured 29-year-old female was winched from the scene.

"A crime scene was declared and investigations into the crash are ongoing," a police statement said.

The witness said the plane crashed into water in the Fogg Dam, which is infested by crocodiles and water pythons.
