President Donald Trump has announced a historic $500 billion investment in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure through a new venture called Stargate, created by OpenAI, SoftBank, Oracle, and MGX.
Axar.az reports that initially funded with $100 billion, the project aims to build the physical and virtual infrastructure needed for the next generation of AI, including data centers and AI chip facilities across the United States. Stargate's first project, a massive data center in Texas, is already under construction. The initiative is expected to create 100,000 jobs and strengthen U.S. leadership in the global AI race, countering China's technological advancements.
Sam Altman, OpenAI's CEO, emphasized the strategic importance of AI infrastructure for economic and national security.
Trump, reversing a previous Biden-era executive order regulating AI, highlighted the project's potential to re-industrialize America, boost economic growth, and safeguard national interests. Oracle, SoftBank, and other stakeholders have expressed commitment to ensuring the U.S. remains at the forefront of AI innovation.
However, the announcement drew comparisons to previous large-scale projects with mixed outcomes, such as Foxconn’s Wisconsin factory, raising questions about the long-term success of such initiatives.
