Pete Hegseth has been elected as the next US Secretary of Defense.

Axar.az reports that he was appointed to this position with a minimum number of votes during the vote in the Senate. Thus, the tie in the vote of 50 votes in favor and 50 votes against was broken by the last vote of Vice President James David Vance.

This is the second time in US history that this has happened. In 2017, Vice President Mike Pence had the tie in favor of Betsy DeVos in the vote to confirm her to the Department of Education.

It should be noted that the vote took place against the backdrop of allegations of alcoholism and aggressive behavior against women against the new head of the Pentagon.
