Court rejects detention extension for President Yoon

The Seoul Central District Court has returned the prosecutor's request to extend the detention of President Yoon Suk-Yeol.

Axar.az reports that the court has rejected the prosecutor's request for the second time to extend the detention of President Yoon Suk-Yeol, who is currently in custody as part of an investigation launched on suspicion of organizing a rebellion after the country's short-term martial law was imposed. Although the prosecutor's office first applied to the court on January 24 to extend the President's detention until February 6, the court did not accept the request. The court did not grant the request because it did not see a special need for the prosecutor's office to complete the investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

It should be noted that President Yoon Suk-Yeol was detained on January 15 as part of an investigation launched in connection with the martial law declared on December 3. The President refused to answer questions during the Anti-Corruption Bureau's investigation. He considers his arrest and the investigation illegal. The investigation team also suspects him of exceeding his authority by sending military personnel to the National Assembly to disrupt the work of the parliament, which was trying to pass a resolution against the declaration of martial law.
