Panama won't renew China's belt and road deal

Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino announced after talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that the government will not renew its memorandum of understanding with China on the "Belt and Road" initiative.

Axar.az reports that this information was published by "PBS News."

“We will explore the possibility of completing the project ahead of schedule,” Mulino stated.

According to him, during the negotiations, Marco Rubio did not threaten to take back of the Panama Canal or the use of force.

Notably, Panama joined China’s "Belt and Road" initiative in 2017.
