The deputy commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was injured on Friday in an attack on a convoy transporting peacekeepers to Beirut airport.

Axar.az informs that Reuters reported this information.

The statement emphasized that the mission has demanded that Lebanese authorities conduct a full and immediate investigation and hold all perpetrators accountable.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack on Saturday, stating that security forces would not tolerate those attempting to destabilize the country.

Lebanon’s Interior Minister, Ahmed al-Hajjar, called an emergency meeting today to discuss the security situation.

The U.S. has also condemned the attack on UN peacekeepers. The State Department’s statement claimed that the assault was carried out by "a group of individuals suspected to be Hezbollah supporters."
