Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan sign historic border deal

The Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan held a bilateral meeting in Yntymak Ordo Presidential Administration on March 13 as part of Rahmon's state visit to Kyrgyzstan.

Axar.az reports according to Akipress, Following the talks, the leaders of two countries have signed a treaty on delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

After reports by Border Guard Service Director Maj. Abdikarim Alimbaev and Commander of Border Troops of Tajikistan Maj. Gen. Murodali Rajab on reopening of Kyzyl Bel and Kairagach border crossing checkpoints on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, the Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan reopened the given border crossing points.

"We held a ceremony of reopening of two border crossing points online," President Sadyr Japarov said.

"Necessary measures for proper development of trade and economic cooperation will be adopted in the coming period for effective tapping of economic potential of two countries," he said.

All border crossing points on Kyrgyz-Tajik border remained closed since May 2021.
