What caused the power outage in Spain and Portugal?

A major power outage struck Spain, Portugal, and parts of France on April 28, 2025, disrupting transport, communication, and daily life.

Axar.az reports that while electricity is gradually being restored, the exact cause remains unclear.

Experts have suggested several possible explanations, including a rare atmospheric phenomenon called induced atmospheric vibration, which may have disrupted high-voltage grid synchronization.

Others point to technical failures or faults in the interconnected European power grid, where a single issue could trigger cascading outages.

Though some officials raised the possibility of a cyberattack, national leaders and cybersecurity agencies have largely ruled it out. Investigations are ongoing.
