A small boat, likely carrying migrants, capsized early Monday off San Diego's coast, leaving three dead, four injured, and seven still missing.

Axar.az, citing AP, reports that the vessel, described as a panga commonly used by smugglers, flipped near Torrey Pines State Beach.

Two of the initially reported nine missing have been detained. The injured were hospitalized with respiratory issues. Authorities continue search efforts using helicopters and boats.

This incident highlights the growing trend of migrants attempting dangerous sea routes to avoid land border controls. Similar deadly smuggling cases have occurred off California’s coast in recent years.
