The EU and Turkiye are also actively involved in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. But there is another player who is noteworthy: the United Kingdom, which is conducting silent but effective diplomacy behind the scenes.
Axar.az reports that Turkish political expert Emre Ozturk said these words.
“The United Kingdom’s national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, stands out as an important figure in terms of Ukraine’s relations with Europe and integration into NATO. Powell plays an important role in preparing the main conditions and overall strategy of a possible ceasefire agreement that is currently being worked on,” the expert said.
Ozturk noted that Powell was previously the representative of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair during the Northern Ireland peace process and is one of the well-known diplomats in Europe with this successful experience:
“His main goal at the moment is to support Ukraine’s integration into a European-centric system, not a US-centric one, in the post-war period. Powell has participated in similar conflict resolution processes in various parts of the world and is described in Russia as “the Thomas Edward Lawrence of the modern era.” This analogy reflects his active and guiding role in complex geopolitical crises.”
