Climber falls 3,000 feet to death on Denali

A 41-year-old mountaineer, Alex Chiu, died after falling 3,000 feet from Denali (Mount McKinley), North America’s highest peak.

Axar.az reports that he was untethered when he slipped from Squirrel Point on the West Buttress route while heading toward Peters Glacier.

Harsh weather delayed the recovery of his body for 48 hours.

Chiu is the latest fatality in a dangerous area where other climbers have also died in past years. Denali remains a popular climbing destination, with around 500 climbers currently on the mountain.
