Thousands of people protested in the center of Madrid against the government of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and the ruling Socialist Workers' Party.
Axar.az reports citing "The Guardian".
The action was organized by the opposition People's Party. According to the central government delegation in the region, 45-50 thousand people participated in the rally. Organizers announced that there were 100 thousand protesters at the action.
The cause of mass discontent was corruption scandals attributed to the government, the Prime Minister's entourage, and family members. The leader of the People's Party, Alberto Nunes Feijoo, addressed the protesters. He called on citizens to "hold elections in line with democracy." The party chairman stressed that new elections should now be held.
At the same time, representatives of the ruling Spanish Socialist Workers' Party assessed the action as a "failure". The head of the country's Ministry of Education, Pilar Alegría, noted that the musical group "Estopa" attracts more viewers than Feijoo.
This is the sixth protest organized by Feijoo's political force. On May 10, a protest was held in Madrid, with about 25,000 people demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister.
