UK and EU agree on Gibraltar deal

The UK and the European Union (EU) have reached an agreement on Gibraltar's post-Brexit status.

Axar.az reports, citing the BBC, that under the new agreement, there will be no need for border checks for people and goods at the border between Gibraltar and Spain. This will create significant convenience for the approximately 15,000 people who travel in the region daily. Passport checks for passengers arriving at Gibraltar airport will be carried out jointly by both Gibraltarian and Spanish officials.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lemmy called the agreement a practical solution and said that this agreement protects both British sovereignty and Gibraltar's economy.

Gibraltar's Prime Minister Fabian Picardo also welcomed the agreement.
