Germany should gain access to the nuclear arsenals of France and the United Kingdom, considering the threat of Russian aggression.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by Jens Spahn, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) faction in the Bundestag.
“Russia’s aggression represents an entirely new kind of threat. Europe must possess deterrence capabilities. The U.S. nuclear bombs stationed in Germany serve this purpose—but in the long term, this will not be enough. We must discuss Germany’s—or possibly Europe’s—participation in the nuclear arsenals of France and the UK, perhaps together with other European countries.
This will require significant funding, but those who want defense must also finance it,” Spahn said.
He also called on EU countries to begin discussions on the idea of an “independent European nuclear umbrella.”
