Benedict XVI was buried

Pope Benedict XVI, who died on December 31 at the age of 96, was buried in the Vatican. He was buried in the original grave of his predecessor, John Paul II (1920-2005), as he wished.

Axar.az reports that Pope Francis led the commemoration ceremony held in St. Peter's Square.

According to the estimates of the Vatican gendarmerie, about 50,000 people attended the ceremony. Some visitors have demanded that Benedict be canonized.

Official delegations from Italy and Germany took part in the funeral ceremony. They were led by presidents Sergio Mattarella and Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
