The first tourist excursions to Russia’s oil fields are planed to be organized in Russia’s Tyumen region, Siberia, head of the regional Consumer Market and Tourism Department Maria Trofimova told TASS on Tuesday. According to her, experts consider various options of the new tour.

"We are assessing, what kind of tours we are lacking. A tour of the region’s oil fields is underway, though its title has not been approved yet. The tour will represent the Tyumen region as a land of oil fields as it was one of the first northern regions of the country where oil production began," she said.

Trofimova added that various ways to arrange the tour were under consideration. "At present, there are good conditions for developing a new tour, make it interesting and informative. People who come here on business, school kids studying the history of their native region and college and university students learning the ropes of oil production will be the tour’s target audience," she elaborated.

According to earlier reports, tourist inflow saw a surge of 300,000 visitors in 2015, when visits of around 2,000,000 Russians and nearly 40,000 foreign nationals were recorded.

Regional authorities say that people often come to the area on business, there are also participants in guided tours and those who spend their holidays in local spas.
