Kazakhstan comments on AZAL crash compensation payments

Kazakhstan has issued a statement on compensation payment related to the crash of an AZAL aircraft.

Axar.az reports that Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev answered journalists’ questions regarding payments to the injured and the families of those killed in the crash of the Azerbaijani airline AZAL aircraft near Aktau.

“We are monitoring the situation, and all payments for citizens of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and other countries will be made. We will do everything possible to ensure there is no discrimination,” Bozumbayev said.

It should be recalled that on December 25, 2024, an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Embraer 190 operating flight J2-8243 on the Baku–Grozny route crashed about 3 kilometers from the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan.

There were 67 people on board: 42 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russian, 6 Kazakh, and 3 Kyrgyz nationals. A total of 38 people were killed in the crash.

According to preliminary investigation findings, the aircraft was struck by a Russian “Pantsir-S” air defense system while approaching Grozny.
