President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev notes the importance of global cooperation in solving climate problems.
Axar.az reports that the head of state told "Avronyus" TV channel in Berlin within the "Petersburg Climate Dialogue" conference.
"This is our common duty and we must do our best to contribute. Of course, each country should do its work depending on its financial capabilities and agenda," said President Ilham Aliyev, adding that it is not easy, because the world is diverse and each country faces many tasks.
The TV channel reminded us that the current "Petersburg Climate Dialogue" provided an opportunity to discuss the agenda of the UN COP29 climate conference to be held in Baku in November.
"Many of the speakers noted that last year's COP28 in the UAE was a defining reference point for global consensus on climate ambitions," the TV channel noted.
The trio of COP Presidents is an initiative aimed at strengthening continuity between COP 28 (UAE), COP 29 (Azerbaijan), and COP 30 (Brazil) to push governments to make bold and ambitious decisions.
The TV channel also quoted COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev as saying that his plan for the COP29 presidency is to "raise ambitions and enable action."
"Avronyus" noted that one of the promises is the transition of countries from fossil fuels to clean energy. At the same time, COP29 Chief Executive Officer Elnur Soltanov was quoted as saying that Azerbaijan is working on creating viable development models without fossil fuels.
"We are talking about a fair and equal transition of energy systems from fossil fuels (to clean energy). We strongly support this. However, the entire structure of the international economic system is based on fossil fuels. We need alternative development models that do not use fossil fuels," E. Soltanov said.
