Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, condemned the unprovoked armed attack by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Axar.az infroms, citing TASS, “Sergey Lavrov condemned the unprovoked armed attack by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, which violates the principles and norms of international law while completely ignoring the serious consequences for regional and global stability and security,” the ministry said. “He emphasized the need for the immediate cessation of attacks against the Islamic Republic and for returning the situation to the path of political and diplomatic resolution.”

Lavrov also noted “Russia’s readiness, including in the UN Security Council, to assist in seeking peaceful solutions based on international law, mutual respect, and a balance of interests.”

In turn, the Iranian minister reported “the measures taken by the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran to repel the aggression of the U.S. and Israel, which once again disrupted negotiations for a peaceful settlement regarding Iran’s nuclear program.” He also informed about plans for an urgent convening of the UN Security Council, the ministry added.

“The Iranian side expressed sincere gratitude for the consistent and firm support provided by the Russian Federation,” the Russian Foreign Ministry added. The conversation took place at Tehran’s initiative.
