Ozgur Ozel forms new party - Video

Former Chairman of Turkiye's Republican People's Party (CHP) Ozgur Ozel and 91 lawmakers supporting him have resigned from the party.

Axar.az reports Ozel has submitted an application to Turkiye's Interior Ministry to establish a new political party. The party is expected to be registered under the name "New Party."

Although the application was filed under the name "New Party," a backup name has been prepared in case legal obstacles prevent its registration. According to reports, the alternative name is "Change Party."

The move follows a court ruling on May 21, 2026, that annulled the CHP's 38th party congress and ordered the reinstatement of Kemal Kilicdaroglu as party leader. The leadership dispute that followed is widely seen as the main reason behind Ozel's decision to leave the party.
