Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan is the leading candidate to become Armenia’s new ambassador to Russia following a possible recall of current Ambassador Gurgen Arsenyan.

Axar.az informs, citing Armenian media, that several candidates are being considered for the ambassadorial post, but the most likely candidate is considered to be Safaryan.

The report said Safaryan oversees the Eurasian region, including Russia and other CIS countries, as part of his responsibilities.

He is also considered to have good relations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and other senior figures in Russia’s political and diplomatic circles.

It should be noted that Armenian media reported several days ago that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had decided to recall Armenia’s ambassador to Russia, Gurgen Arsenyan.
