Captain, cook killed in drone attack on Turkish cargo ship

Two crew members were killed when the Turkish-flagged cargo ship Royal Mammadov, carrying grain from Ukraine to Italy, was attacked by drones about 20 nautical miles off the Romanian coast.

Axar.az reports that the ship had a 13-member crew, including 11 Azerbaijani and two Indian nationals. Two drones struck the vessel, with one hitting the bridge and the other the kitchen.

The captain, identified as Rustam, and the cook were killed in the attack. The captain’s body was recovered, while the cook’s body remained aboard the vessel after it sank.

Eight injured crew members are currently receiving treatment in hospital, while the others were discharged after initial medical examinations.

The management of Palmali Group is at the scene.
