Georgian film director Eldar Shengelaia dies at 92

Georgian-born director Eldar Shengelaia has died at the age of 92.

Axar.az informs the film director received his higher education at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow. In 1957–1959, he worked at the Mosfilm film studio. In 1960, he moved to the Georgian Film studio.

He participated in the creation of such films as "The Legend of the Icy Heart", "The White Caravan", "Oddballs", "Samanishvili's Stepmother", "An Extraordinary Exhibition" and "Blue Mountains, or an Incredible Story".

The filmmaker was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1988, and the Shota Rustaveli Prize in 1998.
