Turkiye has canceled the concert of a French singer of Algerian-Jewish origin Enrico Macias, which was scheduled to take place in Istanbul on September 6.

Axar.az informs the decision was announced by the Istanbul Governor’s Office.

Authorities said permission for the event was denied “after intense calls for protests against the concert.”

The governor’s office stressed that such demonstrations could put participants in a difficult legal position and cause them to face grievances.

Macias’s support for Israel has faced sharp criticism on social media and from various groups.

All concerts, performances, marches, press statements, sit-ins, and similar events planned to be held around the concert venue in Istanbul’s Sisli district on Friday were also banned by the governor.
