People’s artist Roza Jalilova passes away

People’s Artist, dancer, choreographer-ballet master Roza Jalilova has passed away.

Axar.az informs Roza Jalilova was born on May 17, 1929, in Guba. In 1947, she graduated from the Baku Choreography School.

She worked for two years in the ballet troupe of the Academic Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1949, she joined the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Azerbaijan State Academic Philharmonic named after M. Magomayev. Until 1965, she continued her career as a soloist in the ensemble’s dance group, and from 1965 to 1975 she led the group.

Roza Jalilova’s repertoire included not only Azerbaijan’s national dances but also Arab, Persian, Indian, and various other world dances. Over more than 30 years of stage activity, she toured in Canada, China, the United States, Turkiye, Iraq, Morocco, and other countries.

A laureate of world festivals and international competitions, Roza Jalilova also led the “Gulustan” ensemble and the “Sevinj” dance ensemble under Baku State University.
