More people are treating themselves to a solo meal

Solo dining is on the rise, with nearly half of fast-food trips now ordered for one, according to Yum Brands, parent company of Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Habit Burger, Axios reports.

Axar.az reports that since 2021, solo orders have increased from 31% to 47%, and full-service restaurant reservations for one rose 22% in Q3 2025.

The trend is driven less by loneliness and more by self-care, cravings, and personalization, particularly among Gen Z and millennials. Popular items like pizza and wings are being redesigned for individual servings, while restaurants emphasize choice and control in dining experiences.

Despite the growth, solo diners still represent less than 1% of total reservations, meaning group dining remains dominant and continues to be linked to social happiness.
