Azerbaijani poet Yusif Hasanbey dies aged 92

Honored art worker and poet Yusif Hasanbey has died today.

Axar.az informs that the information was confirmed by Rauf Aslanov, adviser to the chairman of the Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan.

It is noted that Hasanbey had been suffering from cancer. He was recently transferred from “Melhem” Hospital to the Baku Health Center.

Born on December 26, 1932, in the city of Guba, Azerbaijan, he worked as a literary editor at the Azerbaijan State Music Publishing House, a literary staff member at the “Baku” evening newspaper, and a translator. He studied poetry at the Maxim Gorky Literature Institute in Moscow.

Since 1994, he had served as the head of the Guba regional branch of the Writers’ Union of Azerbaijan.
