Googoosh, an Azerbaijani-Iranian singer based in the United States, has been awarded the 2026 Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
Axar.az reports that the artist shared the news on her Facebook account.
“Last night I had the honour of receiving the “Ellis Island Medal of Honor” — an award given to individuals who have made an impact on American society while preserving their cultural roots and identity.
I am grateful for this valuable honour, and I would like to take this opportunity to mention the name of Iran and the noble people of Iran.
I dedicate this award with love and respect to the people of Iran — to a nation that has lived for years with hardship, patience, hope, and dignity, and despite all difficulties, still stands strong,” Googoosh said.
The Ellis Island Medal of Honor, established in 1986, is one of the most prestigious American civic awards, given to individuals active in fields such as arts, culture, politics, science, business, and social work.
Over the years, recipients have included notable figures such as Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Rosa Parks, Frank Sinatra, Gloria Estefan, Malala Yousafzai, and Donald Trump.
