Zihni Goktay, a renowned Turkish film and theater actor, has died at the age of 81.

Axar.az reports that the news was announced by his son in a post on social media.

The actor passed away a few hours ago at the hospital where he had been receiving treatment.

Goktay had recently moved into a nursing home at his own request. He later underwent surgery after suffering a broken leg.

Born in Istanbul in 1945, Goktay quickly established himself as one of Turkey's prominent theater, film, and voice actors. He was best known for his roles in Hababam Sinifi (The Chaos Class) and Atla Gel Shaban (Come on Horseback, Shaban).
