Famous American singer, songwriter and actress Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80.

Axar.az reports, citing foreign media, that the artist died in Nashville, Tennessee.

“After bravely facing a brief battle with cancer, Dolly departed her Earthly life today at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center surrounded by loved ones,” her publicist, Marcel Pariseau, said in a statement Tuesday.

Dolly Parton rose to worldwide fame during her career, which began in the 1960s. She won the love of millions of fans with such famous songs as “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You” and “9 to 5.”

The artist also enjoyed success as an actress. She appeared in films such as “9 to 5” and “Steel Magnolias.” Parton was also known for her charitable work and founded the “Imagination Library” project aimed at promoting literacy among children.

Dolly Parton sold more than 100 million albums and received 11 Grammy Awards.
