As we reported, People’s Artist Alexander Sharovsky passed away today.

Axar.az recalls that Alexander Yakovlevich Sharovsky was born in Baku on February 10, 1948. He graduated from the Azerbaijan State Institute of Foreign Languages in 1973.

He joined the Azerbaijan State Young Spectators Theatre as an actor in 1967. From 1976, he continued his career at the S. Vurgun Azerbaijan State Academic Russian Drama Theatre, initially as an actor, then as an assistant director from 1978 to 1990. On June 11, 1991, he became the theatre’s director, and he had served as its chief director since 1993.

Over the years, he performed more than 50 roles on stage, appeared in four films and directed 54 theatrical productions.

Sharovsky contributed to the creation of numerous films and also played roles in some of them, including notable performances in “Don’t Be Afraid, I’m with You” and “The Joke.”

He was awarded the Orders of “Honor” and “Glory,” as well as Russia’s Order of Friendship and Pushkin Medal.

He received the 2nd Degree Presidential Award of the Republic of Azerbaijan (July 26, 2002), the Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (February 9, 2023), the Presidential Personal Pension (April 1, 2005), and the “Humay” and “Golden Derwish” awards.
