The newly born baby weighs 8 pounds and 7 ounces and Prince William was present for the birth, according to the statement from Kensington Palace.

"Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

Duchess of Cambridge admitted to Lindo Wing after going into labour.

She was taken there this morning – on St George’s Day – with Prince William.

Kensington Palace announced the news on Twitter saying: ‘Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London earlier this morning in the early stages of labour. ‘The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.’
