Today is the day of remembrance of prominent ophthalmologist, honored scientist of the Azerbaijan SSR, professor Zarifa Aliyeva.

Axar.az reports that Zarifa Aliyeva married the late President of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev in 1954. Sevil Aliyeva was born on October 18, 1955, and Ilham Aliyev was born on December 24, 1961.

Z.Aliyeva was awarded the prize of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences named after academician MI Averbakh in 1981. She was the first woman to receive this award.

The body of Zarifa Aliyeva, who died in Moscow on April 15, 1985, was brought to Baku from the Novo-Devichye Cemetery in Moscow in 1994 and was buried in the Alley of Honors near her father's grave.
