Pyramid of Cheops will be closed for tourists

From June, the Pyramid of Cheops in Giza will be closed to tourists.

Axar.az reports that the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt disseminated this information.

It is specified that restoration work will be carried out in the pyramid as part of a regular maintenance program.

“The Pyramid of Menkaure will be open to visitors from the inside throughout the entire period of the closure of the pyramid of Cheops,” the ministry added.

The famous archaeological complex of the pyramids of Giza is located on the west bank of the Nile River near Cairo. The age of the monuments is more than 4.5 thousand years. The complex consists of three pyramids of the pharaohs of the IV dynasty: Khafre, Cheops and Menkaure.

The largest and oldest of the Great Pyramids is the pyramid of Cheops, who lived around 2579-2556. BC. Its original height reached 147 meters. The construction took 2.3 million limestone blocks. So far, archaeologists have not been able to find the mummy of the pharaoh himself.
