At the 67th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, Beyonce finally won the coveted Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter, her eighth album celebrating the Black roots of country music.
Axar.az reports that this marks her first win in the category after four previous losses, making her the first Black woman to win since Lauryn Hill in 1999.
Beyonce also won Best Country Album, surprising even herself, as the award was announced by Taylor Swift. She dedicated her win to country music pioneer Linda Martell.
Kendrick Lamar dominated with five awards, including Record of the Year for Not Like Us, while Doechii made history as only the third woman to win Best Rap Album. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars won Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and used their platform to support the LGBTQ+ community. The ceremony also paid tribute to Quincy Jones, with performances by Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, and Will Smith introducing the segment. The event served as a fundraiser for wildfire relief in Los Angeles, raising over $7 million.
