Iran favors and is fervidly following up on the case of visa waiver with Azerbaijan, a spokesman of the Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry, Bahram Qassemi, said at a conference in Tehran.

"I hope that regarding the nature of mutual relations a visa waiver can be achieved," Qassemi said.

He added that the first step, which is being arranged, is for the two sides to ease the requirements. "After that, they will lift the visa requirement for special groups, and then it would be generalized," Qassemi noted.

The spokesman added that Iran is pursuing the same agenda with Russia.

"We have waived visa with a number of countries already. Generally, we do not have any problem with visa waiver and are ready to improve the range of countries with which we remove the visa requirements," Qassemi said.
