"Representatives of all nationalities, confessions living in Azerbaijan beat at one point, on the most painful problem of us - the settlement of Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. That is - our national issue”, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on June 17 at the Iftar ceremony on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The Head of State noted that every citizen of Azerbaijan must do on a daily basis and, do everything possible for the speedy resolution of this issue: “For many years part of the territory of Azerbaijan under occupation, our lands captured. Against our people pursued policy of ethnic cleansing, committed the Khojaly genocide. According to reports by the OSCE fact-finding mission in the occupied lands destroyed all the buildings. Armenians destroyed our historic buildings, tombs, mosques. This is an unprecedented atrocity. In Azerbaijan, in Baku city center, there is an Armenian church. No one touch it, on the contrary, it is renovated. Azerbaijan to build churches, synagogues, mosques. That's the difference".

The President noted that the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should quickly find its solution: “International law protects our position. Historical justice is also on our side. In recent years, the mediators involved in this issue, their senior officials noted that the issue should be resolved in the near future, that the status quo is unacceptable and must be changed. We perceive it positively. But such statements were heard before. For many years, are the claims about the unacceptability of the status quo, but no action is taken after the statements. It is time to take concrete steps. On the occupier must be exerted a very serious pressure to the question found a peaceful resolution. We are the supporters of this. There have always been supporters of this”.

“At the same time, it is no secret that the balance of forces in the region, especially between Armenia and Azerbaijan, today has changed dramatically. Azerbaijan has achieved great advantages in all areas, and never misses it. The difference between Armenia and Azerbaijan in all fields will increase. Because we are on the path of development. We have a very clear and precise views and program for the future. Armenia can not survive without foreign donations support. It already shows their economic situation. This is shown by the April events. So we know about our power and rely on it - I mentioned this - including, we are aware of our military power, only a small part of our military potential, was demonstrated during the April fighting” – said President Ilham Aliyev.

The President noted that this was a good lesson for the Armenian leadership: “At the same time it was the signal for the intermediaries, the world community that it is not a frozen conflict. If someone believes that we will continue to negotiate and meaningless in the next twenty years, is mistaken. We do not intend to conduct negotiations meaningless. We will not negotiate for the sake of imitation. Immediately, unconditionally to begin meaningful, substantive talks. In this case, can approach a peaceful solution to the issue.

In May there was a meeting in Vienna. Next week will be a meeting in Russia - in Saint Petersburg. We hope that this issue can and must find a solution through peaceful means. To achieve this, Armenia should abandon its aggressive policy and liberate our lands”, - President said.

The President noted that there is consensus on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh in the Azerbaijani society: “April events even more united our people. The Azerbaijani people have shown tremendous support to the state, our army. It showed resistance, the level of our people. I am sure that we will have to follow the path of development and in all other directions. We confidently manage our country. I want to reiterate that solved the economic and, of course, energy issues. But the main source of our strength is our unity. Sitting here today demonstrate the unity of the people of the Azerbaijan state, the people”.
