Germany’s “Deutsche Welle” (DW) broadcasting company created a documentary titled “The 8 countries that could swing the global power balance,” describing Azerbaijan as one of them.
Axar.az informs that in the documentary, analyst Ken Moriyasu of the US think tank Hudson Institute categorizes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Turkiye, and Uzbekistan as rising middle powers of Eurasia and explains how these eight middle powers, the region’s so-called swing states, could influence global affairs.
According to Ken, if the US wants to counter China, it has to move to the Eurasian continent and focus on land choke points such as Azerbaijan:
"Azerbaijan and also Armenia have been going at each other for many decades. They came to Trump, and Trump proposed creating a land connection between Azerbaijan and its exclave through Armenia. That’s called the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity. The current Middle Corridor goes through China, Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and then to Turkiye. That’s the Middle Corridor. But this offers another route through the south without going through Georgia, through Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkiye. So it gives an alternative option to the Middle Corridor, which is the whole key of Eurasian connectivity: to have multiple options,” the analyst stated.
