On May 1, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, who was on a visit to the country.
Axar.az informs according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting highlighted the long-standing and trust-based cooperation between Azerbaijan and the ICRC, with both sides stressing the importance of maintaining regular contact.
The humanitarian activities carried out by the ICRC in the region were discussed, and the significance of Azerbaijan’s support for these efforts was underlined.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that amid regional tensions and military operations, Azerbaijan has consistently remained committed to humanitarian principles, including providing humanitarian assistance to Iran during periods of ongoing military activity there.
It was stressed that modern armed conflicts often have severe consequences for civilian populations, and the importance of increasing international efforts in this area was highlighted. In this context, Azerbaijan’s commitment to international law and international humanitarian law, as well as its consistent adherence to these principles, was particularly emphasized.
The meeting also discussed steps being taken to establish peace and stability in the region in the post-conflict period. Minister Bayramov informed the other side about efforts to advance the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia and to strengthen mutual trust.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
