Baku hosts first Azerbaijan-Syria consular consultations

On June 8, the first consular consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic were held in Baku.

Axar.az reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that the Azerbaijani delegation was led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department, while the Syrian delegation was headed by Muhammad Yaqub al-Omar, Head of the Consular Department.

During the consultations, the sides reviewed the current state and prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Syrian Arab Republic in the consular sphere, as well as the possibility of signing new bilateral agreements in this field and digitizing consular services.

The parties exchanged information on recent developments in consular services and also discussed the protection of the rights and interests of citizens of both countries, as well as the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens from Syria.

The Syrian side expressed interest in learning from Azerbaijan’s experience for the future development of newly established consular services.
