French-Russian actress, singer and writer Marina Vlady has died at home Thursday at the age of 88.

Axar.az reports, citing French media, that Vlady won the Best Actress award at the 1963 Cannes Film Festival for The Conjugal Bed and appeared in more than 80 films. She began her career at 16 in André Cayatte’s Before the Deluge (1954), for which she received the Suzanne Bianchetti Prize.

She later worked with directors including Jean-Luc Godard, Orson Welles, Bertrand Tavernier, Chris Marker and Ettore Scola. She also appeared in popular French comedies during the 1970s and recorded two albums with her sisters as the Poliakoff Sisters.

In 1969, Vlady married Russian singer and poet Vladimir Vysotsky and moved to Moscow, where she remained until his death in 1980. She later wrote a book about their relationship, Vladimir or the Stolen Flight, published in 1987.

Vlady also published around 10 books, including her memoir 24 Images per Second in 2005. Her children said she remained active in political and social causes throughout her life, including campaigns related to the Algerian War, undocumented migrants, and the right to housing.
