Jim Carrey’s drawing of the violent death of Italy’s wartime fascist Benito Mussolini and his mistress prompted an angry response from the dictator's granddaughter.

Axar.az reports citing Dailymail that, Alessandra Mussolini, who is a member of the European Parliament, slammed the Dumb and Dumber star on Twitter on Saturday as a ‘b*****d’ for drawing a sketch of her grandfather and Clara Petacci hanging upside down from a rafter.

Carrey’s drawing is based on the real life deaths of Mussolini and his mistress Petacci.

On April 28, 1945, communist partisan fighters captured and executed Mussolini and his lover as they were traveling with a convoy of other fascist leaders in Italy.

They were planning to head to Switzerland and from there escape to Spain.

The next day, the bodies of Mussolini, Petacci, and other fascists were hung upside down in front of a gas station in Milan’s Piazzale Loreto as a large crowd vented their anger.

Carrey, whose drawings have been harshly critical of Trump, tweeted a caption which read: ‘If you’re wondering what fascism leads to, just ask Benito Mussolini and his mistress Claretta.’

The actor, who has drawn images of Trump depicting him as a fascist and a Nazi, appears to be making a commentary that he feels is relevant to today' developments.

The tweet generated more than 57,000 likes and 15,000 retweets.

Alessandra Mussolini replied to Carrey’s sketch, writing: ‘You are a b*****d.’

Another Twitter user replied to Alessandra Mussolini, writing: ‘I think you’re confusing Jim Carrey with your murderous grandfather.’

To which Mussolini replied: ‘Or maybe with some of your family…’

Alessandra Mussolini, 56, is an Italian politician and former actress and model.

She is a member of the Forza Italia political party, a center-right faction.

Mussolini posted a number of angry tweets in response to Carrey, saying that he should draw images of America’s troubled past.

She posted an image of Native Americans standing in front of Mount Rushmore.

Mussolini also posted a photo of Rosa Parks, the black civil rights activist who refused to sit in the back of the bus in the segregated south of the 1950s.

She also tweeted a photo of a mushroom cloud, presumably as a criticism of the American use of atomic bombs on Japan during World War Two.

Mussolini also retweeted a link to a news article about the famous photo taken of frightened and naked Vietnamese villagers fleeing as American planes bombed from overhead.

A number of Twitter users pointed out to Mussolini that while Carrey is a Hollywood star, he is originally from Canada.
