Czech Republic holds state funeral for Karel Gott

The Czech Republic held a national day of mourning on Saturday for the funeral of pop singer Karel Gott.

Axar.az reports citing Xinhua.

A funeral of state honors was held at St Vitus Cathedral in Prague and flags flew at half-mast on public buildings.

Czech President Milos Zeman and Prime Minister Andrej Babis were among the guests at the funeral service, which was broadcast on big screens and on Czech television.

Gott died on Oct. 1 at the age of 80, after fighting against leukaemia for a period of time.

Gott, who released some 300 albums since the 1960s and sold tens of millions of copies worldwide, was regarded the most popular pop singer in the Czech Republic.
