Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has joined the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow.

Axar.az informs that Hollywood actor and ecologist Leonardo DiCaprio has long been contributing to the fight against climate change. He has donated millions to environmental organizations, was elected UN Climate Change Representative in 2014, and supports initiatives to use natural materials in production.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft CEO Bill Gates also attended the event.

It should be noted that Azerbaijan is represented at the conference by a delegation led by Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev.

After ratifying the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1995 and the Kyoto Protocol to the Convention in 2000, Azerbaijan joined international efforts to mitigate the negative effects of global climate change. Our country ratified the Paris Agreement in October 2016. The Paris Agreement defines the obligations of countries based on the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

According to the National Contribution Document, Azerbaijan aims to reduce the level of greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent by 2030 compared to the base year (1990).
