After calling Gerard Pique her ‘dream’ husband, Shakira has revealed how she now sees him as someone who should not be named in her life.
Axar.az reports that the 47-year-old pop icon has had a tough few years, having been locked in a tax dispute with Spanish authorities and caring for her father during romantic turmoil.
She is now returning to work, having put her ‘career on hold’ for her footballer ex, releasing her first album since 2017’s El Dorado.
Her upcoming album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, will feature single Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53, which has been branded as a ‘diss track’ towards her 37-year-old ex-husband.
‘Voldemort, that one that shouldn’t be mentioned?’ she said when asked about the connection. ‘It’s hopefully the last song that I will write about this, and to him.’
She added: ‘I felt that there was still something there, stuck in my throat, and I needed to get it out. I played it to the marketing head at Sony and he started crying. I’d never seen a man cry in my studio before.’
Another track on the album titled Ultima (Last) also reportedly features the lyrics: ‘Surely with time you’ll regret it/ And someday you’ll want to come back to my door.’
She told The Times that the new album had helped her ‘exorcise a lot of the demons that were tormenting’ her.
Reflecting on her pause in career, Shakira continued: ‘For a long time I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football. There was a lot of sacrifice for love.’
