Azerbaijan is an important partner for Britain in security and diplomacy.
Axar.az reports that the UK Minister of State for Defence, Lord Vernon Coaker, made the remarks at an official reception in London marking the 108th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s independence.
Speaking as a senior British guest, Coaker highlighted the growing potential of bilateral relations.
“I am proud that the British government I represent is elevating relations with Azerbaijan to the level of a strategic partnership. This will allow our countries to expand cooperation in defence and security, trade, investment, economic growth, as well as innovation and education. These priorities are being discussed during the increasing number of high-level visits between the two countries,” he said.
The minister noted that in an increasingly uncertain and dangerous world, partnerships between friendly countries are more important than ever.
He also referred to Azerbaijan’s achievements throughout history and in recent years, saying the UK welcomes and values President Ilham Aliyev’s continued efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region.
Coaker also recalled his visit to Azerbaijan last December, saying the country had left a strong impression on him. He praised the blend of antiquity and modernity, as well as East and West, in Baku, and expressed appreciation for the hospitality of the Azerbaijani people.
He added that his meetings with President Ilham Aliyev and other officials had given new momentum to bilateral relations, particularly in defence cooperation.
