Azerbaijani karate athletes win 9 medals in Romania

Azerbaijani karate athletes have won 9 medals at the Fudokan European Championship held in Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania.

Axar.az reports, citing the Karate Federation, that Babek Galamzade became European champion in the open-weight senior kumite category, defeating all his opponents.

Other gold medals were won by Elmir Kazimzade (10–11 age group, 40 kg), Gorkhmaz Safarli (14–15 age group, 65 kg), Ravan Shirinov (16–17 age group, 65 kg), Elton Aliyev (16–17 age group, 75 kg), Mehdi Abdullayev (16–17 age group, +75 kg), and Tahir Alekbarov (U-21, +75 kg).

Ali Hajiyev won silver in the U-21 (75 kg) category, while Aykhan Pirguliev took bronze in the 16–17 age group (65 kg).

It should be noted that the championship brought together 985 athletes from 22 countries.
